Girl

In eighth grade, Belle began studying the art of acting at The Young Actor's Studio. While there, she was exposed to a myriad of monologues written for teens. One monologue intrigued her more than the others—it came from a play called Girl by Megan Mostyn-Brown. Curious to learn more, Belle decided to read the play in its entirety. Staying true to the mission of her production company and her desire to tell stories by women and other underrepresented voices, the script resonated with her deeply. The play explores the experiences of young women through a series of monologues, tackling themes of identity, loss, and sexual assault. Divided into three sections, the script features different female characters speaking directly to the audience about their lives, relationships, and struggles with issues such as addiction, teenage pregnancy, and heartbreak.

When Belle started in the LACHSA Theatre Department, she formed strong friendships with many of her female classmates. As the play lingered in the back of her mind, she began connecting the personalities and acting strengths of her classmates to the characters she had come to know so well. In the spring of 2025, she was inspired to produce the play herself and knew exactly who she wanted to cast. By reaching out to actors she felt would connect deeply with the main characters, she assembled a group of young women who were able to bring her vision to life.

A true passion project, this production represents everything Belle hopes to accomplish in the field of theatre: telling stories that are too often unheard, creating opportunities for audiences to see themselves reflected on stage, collaborating with fellow artists to bring meaningful work to life, and inspiring connection through powerful storytelling. Seeing her vision become a reality was incredibly rewarding, but what made the experience truly unforgettable was its impact on the audience. All three performances sold out, and many audience members—especially young women—left the theatre in tears, deeply moved by the stories they had just witnessed. For Belle, the production affirmed that connection through art is one of the most powerful forms of expression, and it strengthened her desire to continue producing meaningful theatre that leaves a lasting impact.
